Imphal, September 23 2018:
Awardees of "Outstanding Player Awards-2018 for Pro Fight Bell", medallists in various National and International events and Yambem Gobin Singh, who is attempting Guinness World Record in four different categories were felicitated today in a programme organised by Kickboxing Association of Manipur (KAM) at Moirangkhom Leipung Bazar.
The felicitation programme which witnessed encouragement of the athletes and motivation for the Tokyo Games 2020 wherein Kickboxing will be an event, was graced by MK Preshow Shimray, former Deputy Speaker and president of KAM as chief guest; Loitongbam Umakanta, working president of KAM as president; and Edward Moon-Little, Research Scholar from London; Dr Laifungbam Debabrata, president, Elders' council, CORE and Nongmaithem Noren, Chief Engineer, PWD as guest of honours.
Speaking on the occasion, chief guest of the function, Preshow Shimray spoke highly of the State kickboxing players who have brought home medals and maintained that Manipuri players have created a niche of their own which the players from other States would find it hard to attain.
He noted that "Kickboxing" is one of the favourite sporting disciplines in the State and it is embraced by more than 90 countries.
However, the Central Government and the State Government have made little deliberation in this field for years despite its growing popularity in the country, he added.
Stressing on the need of keeping our body and mind healthy, he asserted that the game can be endorsed by those who are between the age of 7 years to 40 years.
He further said that consistent practise and extra efforts are required so as to achieve more in the National and international arenas.
Preshow Shimray also encouraged and wished the State players to give their best in the upcoming North East Kick Boxing Championship which is scheduled to be held in Guwahati and further promised for all possible helps and support from the association.
Research Scholar, Edward Moon-Little praised Manipur for being a rich State when it comes to games and sport.
Edward continued that it is games and sports that bring Britain closer to Manipur and further said that he could gather many informations about the game of Polo here in Manipur which is considered the birthplace of Modern Polo by all.
He also urged the youth of Manipur to devote more into games and sports and prayed for successful and fulfilling lives.
Dr Laifungbam Debabrata also spoke about the roles of sports associations in developing the society which involves awareness of proper diet, discipline and proper counselling and sports activities.
Secretary of KAM, S Umakanta in his welcome address lauded the efforts of the association which has been grooming eminent players since the last two decades without Government's acknowledgement and support.
He also expressed happiness about the inclusion of Kickboxing in the 2020 Tokyo Games, Shillong National Games and upcoming Asian Games.
He was also optimistic of better performance from the State players in these events.
