SCMI Senapati Unit observes International Day of Peace

Students Christian Movement of India (SCMI) Senapati Unit observed International Day of Peace at Mini-stadium Senapati District HQ on September 21 while Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam (IAS) delivered a lecture on the theme "Right to Peace" to commemorate the significance of the day and propagate the message of peace.
The programme was begun with President SCMI Paul N Tao welcoming the distinguished guests, special invitees, students and participants and said that 'International Day of Peace' was celebrated to facilitate brotherhood amongst all sections of the society and to share love and compassion.
Pastor David Sha of Poumai Baptist Church, Senapati also graced the programme with the living words of God quoting verses from the good book.
Speaking at the occasion, Somorjit Salam (IAS) said that in the beginning man was at peace with him and nature and added that peace is desired by all human beings and in quest for peace, man has fought terrible wars but failed to achieve peace.
Everyone wants peace but nobody is willing to work for it and this is why peace has been elusive, he said.
He continued that today's society is sharply divided on communal lines and acceptance of the fellow beings as one of own is the first and foremost important thing that needs to be done to bring a peaceful society.
The speaker also highlighted that peace is not only the absence of violence but also the presence of justice.
"There can be no justice without peace and there can be no peace without justice.
Without justice, peace will be an elusive goal," he said.
He also encouraged the participants, particularly the youth, to spread peace by inculcating the ideals of forgiveness, compassion, tolerance and justice.
The programme also witnessed Lovingson Lanah and Vaijone Vemai singing the song 'Singing for peace' enthralling the audience with their melodious voice.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks from Besii Mayikho, Program Coordinator, SCMI Senapati and extended special thanks to Deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam (IAS) for delivering a profound lecture and awakening the youth to tirelessly work for a peaceful society.
The organizing committee also expressed their gratitude to the district administration, 59th Mountain Brigade, Senapati division, State Bank of India, HDFC bank, Proupouzei Creative Design (PCD), Innovative Stop Media (IMS), and Green Hills Society.
More than 200 people attended the programme with students from Mt Everest College, Mt Pisgah College and Mt Zion, religious elders, civil organizations and students leaders.
