Sensitisation programmes on protection of children, women held

National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) conducted a sensitisation programme on protection of child right today at Banquet Hall, 1st Manipur Rifles today.
The one day State level sensitisation workshop for NGOs running children home and hostels on provision of RTE Act, 2009, NCPCR regulatory guidelines for hostels of educational institution for children and leveraging CSR initiatives for child education, child welfare and child wellbeing' was attended by Ksh Bhabananda Singh, MP Rajya Sabha as chief guest.
Sumatibala Ningthoujam, Chairperson, Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR), A Brajakumar Sharma, president Seva Bharati, Manipur and Paresh Shah, expert education, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) attended the event as president, guest of honour and representative of NCPCR respectively.
Speaking at the event, Ksh Bhabananda stressed the need to monitor and the children homes and child education institutions in the State and urged the authorities concerned to follow the proper guidelines and regulations of the NCPCR and other child rights related laws.
Commenting on the recent news about sex scandals at children homes in other parts of India, he urged the NCPCR and MCPCR to take up all necessary means to protect children from abuse and sexual assualts.
Lauding the NCPCR and MCPCR for organising the programme, he said that many such sensitisation and awareness programmes are still needed to protect rights of children.
He urged the caretakers of children homes to care for the children as _ their own and called for a collective effort to safeguard the rights of children and nurture their growth as successful and responsible citizens.
Meanwhile, Progressive Women Society (PWS) Senapati & Rural Women and Child Development Association (RWCDA) Senapati organised an awareness cum interaction programme on women and child protection at Purul, Senapati.
The function was attended by A Elizabeth (president PWS, Senapati) and D Baolousiiru (adviser RWCDA).
Ex-MP Kim Gangte and former Prof of Economics at MU Binota attended the event as resource persons.
Kim Gangte spoke about tribal customary law & women and explained the rights of women in society.
"Whenever there is a problem in the society, the society used women as shield since the society is patriarchy.
Most of the women are not aware of their rights, so we need to educate women before it's too late," she said.
"Women's political representation is very low," she said speaking about women empowerment and participation in decision making and urged the Purul women to take active participation in the socio-political and economical development processes.
Prof Binota spoke on 'Human rights is women's rights'.
"Women in society are confined mostly in kitchen," lamenting on the traditional and cultural beliefs about women prevailing in the society.
She further called for education of women and children and appealed them to learn use of technology such as smart phones and internet.
