Imphal, January 23 2023:
Accusing the Congress party of playing low level politics and attempt ing to draw political mileage out of the government's War on Drugs mission, BJP Manipur Pradesh vice president Ch Chidananda said that the mission is not a joke but a war to protect the state and its people from the impact of drugs.
Addressing a press meet at the party office here on Sunday, Chidananda said that the War on Drugs mission is an initiative of the Biren government for all the sections of the society but not for gaining political popularity and public support.
However; it is unfortunate for the MPCC president to enter the SP's office in relation with the arrest of five CDO personnel along with drugs.
It shows Congress party in a bad position of obstructing in police investigation and attempting to take political mileage out of the incident, Chidananda said.
On the other hand, Biren made an appeal to school transport service providers to follow guidelines issued by the transport department.
Sharing an order issued by transport director Dr Nivedita Lairenlakpam dated December 23, last year, the CM later made an appeal on his social media handles urging school van drivers to follow the guidelines issued by the transport department as far as possible keeping in view of the safety of school children.
The December 23 notification stated that almost all the vehicles used for transportation of school students/children, particularly buses, vans and three wheelers do not comply with the standard conditions and safety norms as prescribed by the transport department.
Carrying of excess number of school children compromising their safety and comfort is a serious offense.
Moreover, the vehicles used for transportation of school children should be regularly checked for their fitness and related documents like permits, PUCC, commercial registration among others.
The notification instructed all the transport operators of the state engaging in transportation of school students/children to comply with the conditions set by the department while cautioning of necessary actions as per Motor Vehicle Act & Rules in case of non-compliance.
