To boost Government' s War on Drugs, CAF&PD Minister L Susindro has provided scythes for cutting and destroying poppy plants to Tangkhul women today.
At his office at Secretariat, the Minister provided Rs 1 lakh fund and 150 scythes to women representatives of the Tangkhul women union-Tangkhul Shanao Long.
He lauded the women for their enthusiasm and support to the Government's War on Drugs, an effort which aims at making Manipur free of drugs.
The women coming out is a boost to the Government's effort to end drug menace, L Susindro said.
The Tangkhul Shanao Long team had approached him for his support and as such, they were provided the monetary assistance ofRs 1 lakh.
The women unionhas been destroyingpoppyplantations in their area.
The monetary assistance provided will help them manage transportation, food and other logistic needs, he said.
The 150 scythes were given as tools to cut and destroy poppy plants.
Their enthusiasm and support to the Government's effort to curb drug menace is laudable, he added.
Meanwhile, Tangkhul Shanao Long's finance secretary Sopem MK said the Khamason area, in Ukhrul district, alone had around 581 acres of poppy plantations and the Tangkhul women and volunteers have destroyed half of it.
The assistance provided by the Minister will help the union and the Tangkhul community root out poppy cultivation in Ukhrul and Kamjong district, Sopem MK said.
She thanked and appreciated L Susindro for his assistance.
