Drugs worth over Rs 12 Cr seized

The War on Drugs continues as contraband drugs worth over Rs 12 crore were seized by district police and Assam Rifles in less than 24 hours while poppy destruction drive was carried out at Beleij ang and T Khonomphai villages.
At least three cases of drug seizure were reported in the period.
The biggest seizure was 8 kg of brown sugar worth about Rs 11 crore from two drug peddlers from the eastern side of Kiyamgei Thongkhong last night at around 7.45 .
The two persons arrested along with brown sugar from Kiyamgei have been identified as Md Abdul Salam (47), s/o Late Md Chaoba of Lilong Yangbi Leikai and Md Wasim Akram @ Tete (19), s/o Late Md Ayaiddin of Lilong Mairenkhul.
From the duo, eight packets of brown sugar, one autorickshaw (Bajaj RE), one backpack, Rs 2730, one Aadhaar card and one mobile phone were seized and they have been handed over to Irilbung police station.
While personnel of 10 Assam Rifles arrested one person along with WY tablets worth around Rs 10 lakh from Khudengthabi post, a team of Kakching commando seized 611 gram of heroin which would fetch over Rs 1 crore in the international market as per earlier estimation from two persons coming in an auto rickshaw at Kakching Lamkhai.
In another instance, personnel of 10 Assam Rifles arrested one person along with WY tablets worth around Rs 10 lakh from Khudengthabi, today.
The arrested person has been identified as Mangminthang Haokip, s/o Demkhopao Haokip of Ukhrul.
The contraband weighing 228 grams with packaging materials were found when searching vehicles coming from the Moreh side at the AR post, said sources.
The seized drugs cost around Rs 10 lakh in the international market.
The arrested person along with the drugs have been handed over to Moreh police station.
A team of Kakching commandos also seized 611 gram of heroin while on duty at Kakching Lamkhai.
The heroin was reportedly brought in an autorickshaw (Bajaj RE) by keeping it in a modified chamber of the vehicle by two occupants who were later identified.
The drug peddlers are Henthiansang Haokip (23), s/ o Yangkhothang Haokip of Moreh Ward no 7 and T Robert Baite (35), s/o Zamkhomang Baite of Panglian Village Singngat Sub-Division, Churachandpur presently staying at Moreh Chikiam Village.
The arrested persons along with the auto- rickshaw driver and the seized articles have been handed over to Kakching police station.
Meanwhile, security forces and Forest officials destroyed illegal poppy plantations at Beleijang village (52 acres) and T Khonomphai Village hill (4 acres) yesterday.
