Imphal, January 23 2023:
Chief Minister N Biren has stressed the need for a firm political decision to protect the state and its indigenous communities so that they can live with dignity and safely.
While inaugurating a community hall at Maibakhul under Heingang assembly constituency in Imphal East district on Monday, Biren said that history plays a major role in bringing the sense of patriotism among the people.
The state remained in a backward condition for decades due to lack of patriotic feelings and political will.
It is time to instil the sense of patriotism among the youth so that the love and development of the state could be reflected in their every action.
The BJP government aims to bring such sentiments among the students and youth, he said and called upon the indigenous communities to value their land, refrain from parting their land to others (non-natives) and uphold their identity and live in unity.
Biren further said that he joined politics to save the state and he will not respond to any request for favouritism even if they come from his relatives or the people of his constituency.
As per the belief of the Meetei community, the Nongpok Thong of Kangla has been opened.
ILP System has closed the western corridor and it will bring prosperity and safety to the people of the state, he said.
The CM recalled how he joined hands with AMADA in 2002-03 and destroyed illegal poppy plantations at Nongmaijing hills.
Stating that poppy cultivation has serious implications in the society, health, economy and environment, he called for making the War on Drugs campaign a public movement to protect the future of the state.
The campaign is a mission to protect the state and its inhabitants from the menace of drugs.
Unfortunately, some people could be seen trying to divert the focus from the mission against drugs and corruption, he said while calling for public support.
At the same time, the government is taking up infrastructure development works.
Road conditions are being improved and issue of water scarcity will be resolved soon.
Water from Thoubal Dam will reach the households in Imphal city area within a short period, he assured.
He also appealed to the people to form watch groups for preventing forest wildfire, whether it is natural or man-made or accident.
As autumn season is approaching, it is important to take precautionary measures to prevent fire incidents, he said.
The chief minister asserted that Heingang AC will see a major change once the convention centre at Thengu Chingjin is completed.
Later, the CM visited the amusement park being constructed in the village and reviewed the progress.
