Cop missing

Thoubal, January 23 2023:
A Village Defense Force personnel who had gone to Phaisi, a border village in Chandel district, on a poppy destruction drive on January 16 has gone missing, said his wife.
The missing VDF personnel has been identified as Ningombam Premananda (37), S/o Ningombam Dina of Thoubal Okram.
He is posted at Chingkham Post in Thoubal.
The missing man has two children, one girl studying in Class X and a son studying in Class II .
When this correspondent visited his residence at Thoubal Okram today, his wife.
Ningombam Ongbi Bomita said police hsti reported him missing on January 21 to the family members.
Notably, Premananda was part of a combined team of security personnel who had gone to Phaisi village on a poppy destruction drive.
The personnel were led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Chandel Police.
Personnel of Thoubal police, Kakching police, Forest Department and NAB took part in the drive which began on January 16 and went on till January 21 .
He is among 70 personnel of the Thoubal district police and VDF personnel who took part in the drive.
The personnel including Premananda had reported at Chakpikarong police station on January 16 morning.
Sources said he was with his colleagues and security personnel on the night of January 20.He also had dinner with others on the same day.
However, shortly after, he was not seen and went missing.
While his mobile phone could be reached earlier, it has now been switched off.
llie police, with additional forces, are still searching for him in the surrounding areas, the sources added.
Meanwhile, appealing to the Government and the police to expand their search, Premananda's wife, Ningombam ongbi Romita said the family and children are waiting for her husband's safe return.
Praying for her son's safe return, Premananda's mother N Memcha also appealed to the police to expand their search and find him at the earliest.
The family is suffering and hapless.
His father is also not well after suffering a stroke, Memcha said, praying for Premananda's safe return.
