Imphal, August 10 2011:
The federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FREINDS) will be pressuring the state government to discuss the issue of re imposing Inner Line Permit in the state in the coming monsoon session.
Speaking at a press conference held today, the President of FREINDS said that Manipur was merged into the Indian dominion in the year 1949 .
In 1950 the then Chief Commissioner Manipur, Himat, through a simple notification removed the Inner Line Permit system which allowed all outsiders from the state to come and settle in Manipur without any restraint.
Due to uncontrolled entry of outsiders in the state the population of outsiders in 2009 rose to 7, 04,488, with the total population of the state at 22, 93,896.One third of the population of the state went to outsiders.
If this trend continues then the fate of the indigenous population will be at stake, he exclaimed.
He further appeals to the concern authority to re impose Inner Line Permit in the state.
In demanding for re imposing Inner Line Permit in the state a sit in protest will be staged at Keishampat on the 20th of this month.
