First ever Bio-Safety Level-II Lab in Manipur opened

The first ever Bio-Safety Level-II (BSL-II) Laboratory of the State, where test for bird flu, swine flu, rabies and other zoonotic diseases can be conducted without sending the samples to laboratories outside the State any more, has been opened from today inside the complex of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Services at Sanjenthong.
Minister of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry N Loken inaugurated the state of the art hi-tech laboratory, which has been installed at an estimated cost of Rs 49,49,718 with joint funding under State share and Eastern Regional Diagnostic Laboratory, Kolkata.
The BSL-II Laboratory which was inaugurated today is said to be the second such laboratory in the whole North East region.
On the other hand, as part of the efforts being taken to set up one Veterinary hospital in all the nine districts of the State under Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR), a newly constructed veterinary hospital in Bishnupur district has also been inaugurated by Veterinary Minister N Loken as chief guest today.
