Imphal, August 10 2011: The talk between the represen-tatives of Sadar Hills Dis- tricthood Demand Com-mittee (SHDDC) and the Chief Minister which was scheduled today could not take place as there was a delay on the part of the Chief Minister's Office in communicating the matter.

On the other hand, all the elected members of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council have decided to tender their resignation enmasse on August 16 over the demand for upgradation of Sadar Hills to a full-fledged district.

According to a reliable source, yet another around of talk between the representatives of agitating SHDDC and the Chief Minister was scheduled to be held at 2 pm today.

The MLAs of three Assembly Constituencies under Sadar Hills as well as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council were also to take part in the talk.

But it could not materialise as there was a delay in relaying the message by the Chief Minister's Office.

The three MLAs as well as the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the ADC arrived in time for parti- cipation in the talks, the source added.

SPF spokesman N Biren while briefing media persons in the evening today said that the Chief Minister met the MLAs of Sadar Hills led by the HAC Chairman, Thangminlien Kipgen.

During the meeting the Chief Minister said that the agitation should stop while at the same time assuring that the Govt would see how Sadar Hills can be upgraded to a district status.

Meanwhile, talking to The Sangai Express, Chairman of Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council SH Seipu has informed that all the ADC members would be tendering their resignation papers on August 16 if the Government fails to grant district status to Sadar Hills by August 16 .

Taking into consideration the decree of SHDDC and the public aspiration, the matter was discussed during a joint meeting of the ADC members at Hotel Imphal today.

However, a final decision over the matter is pending following absence of eight members.

So, another round of meeting would be held tomorrow for taking the final decision, Seipu explained.

Seipu further informed that a 13-member delegation of ADC Sadar Hills to be led jointly by himself and the Vice Chairman would leave for New Delhi on August 12 to meet the Central leaders over the demand for upgradation of Sadar Hills, which spreads over 1698 sq km and has a total population of 1,88,529 people, into a full-fledged revenue district.

Only members of the ADC would be in the delegation and they would meet the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, Seipu disclosed, adding that the proposed New Delhi visit of the delegation has already been brought to the notice of the Chief Minister.

Seipu further informed that in connection with the demand for granting district status to Sadar Hills, the delegation of the ADC Sadar Hills submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister today.

While accepting the memorandum, the Chief Minister conveyed that including himself, 85 percent of the population in the State are in favour of upgrading Sadar Hills into a full-fledged revenue district but there is still the need for boundary demarcation.

So, the delegation exerted pressure on the Chief Minister for granting district status to the existing three sub-divisions namely Kangpokpi, Saikul and Saitu-Gamphajol, Seipu informed.
