70 pc Phumdi clearance over: CM

Chief Minister O Ibobi has said nearly 70 percent of the phumdi (floating vegetation) clearance work taken up in Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district has been completed till up to now.
The Chief Minister on Wednesday visited some places of Bishnupur district to oversee development projects being taken up there.
On the sidelines of the visit, Ibobi told reporters that the phumdi clearance work in Loktak has covered nearly 70 percent so far.
A hefty amount of Rs 250 crore has been allotted for the work undertaken by Delhi based K-Pro Company.
The Chief Minister said that roughly Rs 200 crore has been spent so far on completion of 70 percent of the job.
He observed that the work would have been completed earlier had the lake been filled with enough water.
Ibobi, however, assured the work would be completed by next year.
The trip by the Chief Minister that started from 10 am also covered Naransena where he inspected a complex of 2nd IRB now under construction.
Manipur Government acquired 82.53 acre of land in Naransena for development of the 2nd IRB complex in 2006.Since the development of the infrastructure is yet to finish, the 2nd India Reserve Battalion is currently posted at Khuman Lampak here as its headquarters.
Ibobi instructed all concerned to translate the Government's stand to set up the 2nd IRB headquarters into action at the earliest possible, while assuring that there would be no shortage of materials needed for the construction.
Later Ibobi toured Phubala where the Government has planned to develop a district mini sports complex.
The Chief Minister inspected the site where the proposed complex will be set up.
He also talked to the local residents during the visit.
He told the local residents that the Government will not restrict the local players from practicing in the district mini sports complex when completed.
Ibobi said a proposal for signing a MoU between the local club and Sports Department regarding allowing of local sportspersons practicing in the planned sports complex is on the card.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and Commerce & Industries Minister Govindas Kongthoujam during the visit.
