Thang-Ta fest organised

Hula Sindamsang, Keishamthong Laishom Leirak organised the Festival of Thang-Ta at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy today.
Keishamthong AC MLA Laishom Ibomcha, JNMDA Director L Upendra Sharma and Art and Culture Director K Sobita attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The festival was organised under the sponsorship of Union Ministry of Culture.
L Ibomcha while speaking at the function said that Thang-Ta is losing its significance with people of the State are taking less interest in popularising the martial art.
He said that Thang-Ta may regain its lost vigour if the Government is pressed on setting up a school of martial art from different sections of the society with greater contribution from Thang-Ta organisations.
It is also not known whether the schools have Thang-Ta teachers as martial art has been included in the school syllabus, he added.
K Sobita said that indigenous martial art is being preserved and promoted in advanced countries
like China.
However, martial art is diminishing day by day in Manipur, she said and added that everybody must put in collective effort to find out the reason why Thang-Ta is losing its significance.
Saying that Art and Culture Department has been organising Thang-Ta related programmes from time to time, she said and added that it has become a must to motivate the youths to learn and do research on Thang-Ta.
