Imphal, May 14 2014 :
UKLF has strongly opposed to the construction of designated camp for surrendered KNLF cadres at Semol village in Chandel district.
In a statement, JM.Thadou, Info & Publicity Secy of UKLF, pointed out that the proposal for setting up KNLF camp at Semol village has been opposed by UKLF and the people of the area right from the beginning as such arrangement would disturb the peace of the area.
The policy of the govt in installing two or more rival UG groups in the same area is an invitation of clashes between them which would lead to hardships to the people.
The said Semol area is the operational area of UKLF and planting another unfriendly group means an inevitable physical confrontation between the two, JM Thadou observed.
He went on to say that the present move of the Govt is seen as a divide and rule games between the Kuki UG groups and the govt should withdraw the same for the larger interest of the public.
The govt must also conduct re-verification of the cadres of KNLF to find out whether all the cadres who surrendered on September 9 last year were still intact or not.
It is a known fact that most of the cadres have left the organization since they were hired for the purpose, UKLF alleged.
Holkam alias Luis Khongsai s/o Tilkhosei and Thongkholun Khongsai, s/o Tiljang Khongsai also left the organization just after the home coming ceremony was concluded and now they are engaging in some other works to keep their family alive.
Likewise many others too had left the KNLF since they were not genuine cadres, UKLF said.
The KNLF cadres, excepting very few, are not from Semol area of Chandel district but they are from CCpur and Moreh areas and the claim of the PRO IGAR (S) that all the KNLF cadres are given settlement in their home area, is not true, UKLF clarified.
In the last many JMG meetings, the Govt side had stated that no more new camps shall be established in the interest of the public.
But the present decision of the govt to raise a new camp of KNLF just 7 km from the UKLF camp is very much disturbing as it would be a very unwise step on the part of the govt.If the govt continues its policy of entertaining new groups and pushing them into the SoO pact, naturally more and more new armed groups will be formed and the process will see no end.
This is happening everywhere since it is an open encouragement to many to form new or more armed groups.
But this will only defeat the very purpose SoO agreement and the grand scheme of the govt would be defeated by the same action of the same govt, UNLF asserted.
Therefore, the stand point of the UKLF and the suggestion to the govt is not to entertain new UG groups.
This is for the interest of the general public.
If the govt is so interested and serious for maintaining peaceful atmosphere no more groups should be accepted and no more designated camps should be set up in operational areas of the other, the UKLF statement added.
