An IED has been recovered from a plot of land near Governor Road, Paona Bazar while unidentified persons hurled a bomb at the residence of a Superintending Engineer of Command Area Development Agency (CADA) at Kwakeithel.
Report culled from the spot said that a woman roadside books and plastic wares vendor sighted an explosive-like stuff laying inside the plot of land when she was looking for a polythene sheet to cover her commodities at the place today around 8 am.
The woman vendor immediately informed personnel of 109 Bn CRPF who are on duty around the Raj Bhavan.
Acting swiftly on the information, the CRPF personnel along with sniffer dog confirmed the stuff to be an IED.
An antipersonnel landmine named Claymore along with two detonators were recovered along with the remote controlled IED weighing around 1 kg.
The CRPF personnel retrieved the explosive and handed it over to City PS.
The plot of land where the IED was found belongs to one Dr Ningkhui (55) S/o (L) Yarnao of Tolloi village in Ukhrul district.
The owner presently resides at RIMS quarters.
The plot was kept under the care of one Sushi Kumar Das (56) S/o (L) Sukomoi Das of Tinsukia, Assam.
Meanwhile, an unidentified person hurled a hand grenade at the residence of Thokchom Kesho (65) at Kwakeithel Heinou khongnembi Thokchom Leikai today around 12.40 pm.
Thokchom Kesho is a Superintending Engineer of Command Area Development Agency (CADA).
The grenade was hurled by unidentified person who came along with another person in a red colour Honda Activa.
Two boys were playing carrom at the courtyard when the incident occurred.
Police later retrieved the unexploded grenade.
The incident is suspected to be related to extortion threat.
