Along with holding a public meeting, Yurembam Apunba Club organized a massive rally in protest against the government's decision to acquire vast tract of land in connection with construction of rail tracks and station.
The rally started from Yurembam Makha Community Hall and after passing several places, it ended at the same venue where the public meeting was held with Raghu Meetei, president of Yurembam Apunba Club; Thongam Rashi Leima, president of NIMPAL; Yanglem Mani, president of AMUCO; Joy Nongmaithem, president of AMFA and Yumnam Nabachandra, president of UCM as Presidium Members.
Addressing the gathering, Joy Nongmaithem said that the decision to acquire large tracts of land in Yurembam without any consensus is against the wishes of the people and observed that many farmers in the area will be deprived of their livelihood as large agricultural land is going to be affected by the rail project.
He said that the people of Yurembam should be ready to oppose acquisition of their land at any cost as it is a matter of survival for them.
Y Nabachandra pointed out that large tracts of land in Yurembam have already been acquired on many occasions in the past and categorically stated that the rail project in the State is a welcoming step but it should not be at the cost of Yurembam land.
