Imphal, May 14 2014 :
Manipur Government needs to sponsor the time-honored martial arts like Thang-Ta of the State to prevent them from further deterioration of their popularity, said MLA L Ibomcha on Wednesday.
A Thang-Ta training programme organized by Hula Shingdamshang, Keishamthong Laishom Leirak in Imphal West concluded today.
As part of the training that began from April 24 last, Hula Shingdamashang organized a one-day Thang-Ta festival at JN Manipuri Dance Academy here.
Speaking at the opening function of the festival, MLA Ibomcha said the State Government should back Thang-Ta so as to save it from further losing of its popularity.
Suggesting setting up of Thang-Ta institutions in order to improve and rejuvenate its rare subtlety, the MLA called for a collective effort by Thang-Ta organizations to put pressure on the Government for improvement of the art form.
Speaking at the function, Director Art & Culture K Sobita said it is unfortunate that the people no longer consider art forms of the State as heritage.
However, she added that in countries like China and Japan all art forms are well preserved and protected under strict codes.
Likewise, all art forms of the State need to be preserved under strict discipline, and for that institutions should be established for the benefit of future generation, she added.
