Maram shawls released

The Marams' traditionally decorated shawls � Tahampai and Tuchiipai were released in a symbolic ceremony at the traditional Morung at Sagongbam by Maram Union/Hoho President, K Raisong in the presence of eminent elders and village authorities' .
Rev K Daniel said the blessings prayer while Women's Union President, P Kina Lucy proposed the vote of thanks.
The attires besides fulfilling the basic clothing need are highly revered and worn only by men folks.
In olden days, a man had to earn the right to wear the decorated shawls.
"Tahampai" shawl can be worn only by those who had offered feast of merit as prove of his wealth and "Tuchiipai" by those who had performed the stone dragging ceremony when he was alive.
Meanwhile, Maram Students Union had observed the Mother's Day on May 11 with various Churches' members.
In the name of education and better livelihood opportunities, ignorant parents are easily lured to send their children to metro cities.
On the occasion, the Students' Union urged mothers to remain sensitive over the menace so that innocent young daughters and sons do not become a prey of human traffickers.
