Imphal, May 14 2014 :
As a part of the protest held at the national level at Delhi against electoral malpractices like booth capturing and proxy voting by the ruling Congress party, Left and Secular Alliance also staged a protest demonstration here today against the electoral system currently in practice.
LSA common candidate and CPI State unit secretary Dr M Nara said that Left parties today staged a nation wide protest against electoral malpractices allegedly resorted to by the ruling Congress party during the 16th Lok Sabha election.
A similar protest was also staged in the State in order to save democracy and avoid indulgence of bureaucrats in the electoral process in one-sided manner.
With the ruling party taking advantage of the existing electoral system which has been fostering all kinds of corrupt practices, there is an urgent need to replace the electoral system currently in practice, he maintained.
Exuding that he would certainly win the Lok Sabha election, Dr Nara said that he would win the election by a margin of more than 50,000 votes if the election was held strictly according to rules.
Reiterating that the ECI has been asked either to conduct repoll or exclude polling booths where the poll percentage crossed 90 percent from the counting process, he claimed that the ECI decided not to conduct repoll because the CEO did not send correct reports.
The polling was not free and fair and many polling agents were bought by the ruling party so that they did not raise any objection to proxy voting.
The ruling party's attempt to negate all the evidence of proxy voting at Thoubal, Khundrakpam and Wangkhem is a direct challenge to democracy and all the electorates, Dr Nara said.
