Imphal, June 24 2022:
While informing that due to continuous lifting of urea from outside the department/government has managed to stock pile 1,31,527 bags of urea in warehouses of the department for this Kharif season, agriculture department's assistant fertilizer officer Shanta has said that farmers of the state need not worry for shortage of the fertilizer.
During an interaction with some media persons on Friday, Shanta said that 1,31,527 bags of urea procured by the department from outside till Thursday corresponds to around 5918 metric tonnes.
Government of India's allocation of urea fertilizer for Manipur state for Kharif season is 22,000 metric tonnes but procurement of the remaining urea quota for the state is being hampered due to landslides along the national highways.
If there is no disturbance to transportation, the remaining urea quota could be procured within two months.
According to Shanta, total paddy cultivated area in both hills and valley of Manipur is around 1.95 hectares and several paddy fields which had been converted into organic fields by service providers of Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCDNER) no longer require urea fertilizer.
The total area converted into organic fields is 11,500 hectares and hence there would be no shortage of urea for farmers whose paddy fields are yet to be converted into organic fields in this Kharif season as the present urea stock would meet demands of farmers.
Regarding seizure of 200 bags of DAP and 400 bags of urea few days back in Churachandpur district, Shanta said that the seized fertilizers were unrelated with the department/government.
The seized fertilizers were brought from a dealer from Thinungei in Bishnupur district and fertilizers brought by the dealer are unrelated with the government, he maintained.
