Khujairok river turning into disease breeding ground

Debris piled up on its banks and dumped into the river bed have almost blocked the flow of water of Khujairok river and the pollution level of the river which flows through the heart of Moreh town along India-Myanmar border is now alarming as many people using water of the river are reportedly suffering from water borne diseases.
Many people living in Moreh town who rely on water of the river are now infected with water borne diseases including diarrhoea and skin problems.
Following the rising number of people coming for treatment at sub-divisional hospital, Moreh, the doctors advised people to use boiled water to stay safe from water borne diseases.
Meanwhile, several people living in the border town have drawn attention of the government for taking up steps to clear the debris and ease pollution level of the river.
They also opined that polluted water of Khujairok river could be reason behind water borne diseases among residents of the border town.
They also said that Khujairok river is becoming narrower day by day and may even go extinct in near future if necessary measures to regenerate it is not taken up while there is still time.
