Imphal, June 24 2022:
Terming the Agnipath scheme launched by the NDA government as an agenda to destroy the future of youth and not to provide jobs to them, CPI Manipur state secretary Laishram Sotinkumar has informed that the Left party would launch protest unless the Centre withdraws the scheme.
Addressing a press meet at Irawat Bhawan here on Friday, Sotinkumar said that Sanyukt Kisan Morcha has launched protest against the scheme launched by the Modi government from Friday.
Left parties and Congress with support of 10 trade unions would be conducting a state level discussion on the scheme soon.
Representatives from the state will also attend the public meet against the scheme to be held in Ghaziabad on July 3, he informed.
Sotinkumar contended that by providing temporary service for four years, the scheme will put to waste the most important period of a person, during which one should walk towards the career path they choose.
The scheme is an attempt to cover up the failure of providing jobs as promised by the BJP government without thinking for the future of the Agniveers, who would once again become jobless after the end of their four years of service, he said, while demanding government to withdraw the scheme.
Key leaders of different organisations of farmers also attended the press meet.
