Eat Right Mela organised in Bishnupur

Food Safety Administration, Bishnupur on Friday organised a Walkathon and Eat Right Mela under the theme 'Eat Safe, Eat Healthy and Eat Sustainable' at Kyamba Ningshing Shanglen here.
The inaugural function of the Mela was attended by Oinam MLA Irengbam Nalini Devi, Bishnupur Municipal Council chairperson Laishram Maniyaima Singh and Chief Medical Officer Bishnupur Dr L Raichandra as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Nalini lauded women entrepreneurs and other womenfolk of the state for their crucial contribution towards development.
She also encouraged healthy eat ing by stating that health is the most precious possession of every individual.
The MLA later inspected the food stalls set up by various entrepreneurs.
Earlier in the morning, deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram flagged-off the Walkathon from Mini Secretariat complex.
The walkathon witnessed participation by school students and members of local clubs of the district.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines, DC Bikram emphasised on the importance of balanced diet, while informing that the Eat Right Mela is aimed at promoting awareness on safe and healthy eating through various engaging activities.
Apart from food stalls, painting competition for students, panel discussion and musical concert were other major attractions of the day-long Eat Right Mela, which was organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
During the panel discussion, Food Processing technical consultant Ton -jao Singh, Faculty Food Processing and Quality Control staff Suchitra Hi-jam and state food analyst M Sanajaoba Meitei gave awareness on importance of consuming good quality foods.
Cultural programmes including Das Avatar by NEEHA Moirang, Thang-Ta by NEEHA Ningthoukhong, yoga demonstration by Lashmi Yoga Sadhana Kendra Ningthoukhong and an aerobic performance by Yoginiti Society Bishnupur were also presented.
The Eat Right Movement is an initiative of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to transform the country's food system in order to ensure safe, healthy and sustainable food for all Indians.
