Freedom fighter Achung passes away at 107

A recipient of Tamrapatra in 1975, Achung Kom, an Indian freedom fighter, passed away at about 2.30 am on Friday.
He was 107 .
Born on January 20, 1915 at Khoirentak village in Churachandpur district, the World War-II veteran Achung Kom joined the Indian National Army (INA) in 1943.He was then arrested by the British Allied forces at Laimaton village and put in Imphal jail for seven months from January 16, 1944 .
After he was released from Jail, Achung Kom resumed his cultivation works at his own village for maintenance of his poor family while he enjoyed a monthly pension of Rs 200 per month as a political sufferer.
Son of late Sengneimun, Achung Kom was also former chief of Khoirentak village and had 13 children, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In October last year, former union minister and Congress' observer for Manipur Jairam Ramesh visited the aged freedom fighter at his village (Khoirentak) and presented a shawl as he felt blessed to have the opportunity of meeting the centenarian freedom fighter.
Meanwhile, Khoirentak village authority and Khoirentak Youth Club have condoled the demise of the centenarian freedom fighter, whose funeral service was held on Friday at his native village.
