Imphal, June 24 2022:
As part of the ongoing 'Campaign for Total Education' of All Manipur Students Union-Headquarters (AMSU HQ), a team of AMSU Imphal East District Committee led by its HRD secretary Thangjam Rishikanta Khuman visited Meetei Mayek High School, Kongba under jurisdiction of Porompat ZEO Zone-II and found the school in pitiful condition.
A statement released by AMSU Imphal East information and publicity secretary Loukrakpam Tomba Meitei conveyed that the AMSU team found the school lacking some of the key infrastructures.
The school, which has around 180 students enrolled from Class I to X, does not have the requisite number of classrooms, which is inconveniencing both the students and the teachers.
The toilet in the school is in a deplorable state, while the existing school building is outdated.
There are not enough benches and desks, while the existing ones are old and broken, making it difficult for the students to attend classes properly.
During the visit, the AMSU team interacted with the students and teachers, who conveyed that the students have a hard time coming to school during the rainy season as the school campus, gets inundated.
They further expressed wish for the school toilet to be renovated as soon as possible.
Urging the government to see to the installation of requisite buildings, teachers, desk/bench, toilet, chowkidar and other basic amenities in schools with adequate number of students, the students' body said that failure to do so would lead to parents/guardians opting for private schools, thereby rendering the government's various schemes for revival of government schools meaningless.
