Imphal, July 16 2013:
Even if the alliance of non-Congress opposition parties is mulling over fielding common candidates in both Parliamentary Constituencies of the State to face the Congress candidates in the coming Lok Sabha Election, some parties in the alliance want to field their own candidates instead of consensus candidates of the opposition parties.
According to a reliable source, the Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Unit wants its Secretary Dr M Nara to be the common candidate of opposition parties from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
However, the Party is also planning to set up Dr Nara in the coming Lok Sabha Election on its own if other opposition parties do not agree with Dr Nara's candidature.
On the other hand, Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC) wants to field its President Kim Gangte, also an ex-MP, in the coming Lok Sabha Election from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
The Party, which has seven MLAs in the State, is firm on Kim's candidature even if other opposition parties do not support her as the common candidate.
Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Manipur Pradesh is also keen to field own candidates in the coming Lok Sabha Election to challenge the Congress candidates, who will be backed by 42 MLAs in the State.
The Party has even formed an election committee in connection with the Lok Sabha polls.
It may be noted that the BJP has agreed to set up Prof Gangmumei Kamei in the Lok Sabha Election from Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, though no formal announcement has been made in this regard so far.
The BJP is still inconclusive on its candidate of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Nevertheless, the Party intends to field own candidates in both Parliamentary Constituencies.
Of late, many prominent members from other political parties have joined the BJP in its endeavour to challenge the Congress Party in the coming Lok Sabha Election.
Meanwhile, Manipur People's Party and Janta Dal (United) are actively involved in the deliberation for common candidates.
The parties stand firm to face the Congress Party in the coming Lok Sabha polls by setting up common candidates in both constituencies from among the opposition parties in alliance.
