DG assures action in rape case

Imphal, July 16 2013:
Director General of Police Y Joykumar Singh has reportedly assured a delegation of JAC formed in connection with the rape of a girl student in Yairipok that suitable action would be initiated against the rape accused.
Speaking to mediapersons at the official residence of Andro AC MLA Th Shyamkumar, JAC representatives said that the accused person namely Mamsamayum Itocha was pulled up by the JAC volunteers and activists of other NGOs on July 14 .
After intimating the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on July 15 about the accused person being rounded up and submitting a formal complaint, JAC members along with MLA Shyamkumar called on the DGP before whom the accused was also presented.
With the police chief confiding to the JAC delegation that he would personally supervise the interrogation/investigation process, the MLA also assured to extend all possible cooperation in rounding up the other accomplices, if any, of the accused.
It may be noted that the girl student was abducted by unidentified persons from near Universal College, Yairipok on June 19 and after allegedly outraging her modesty the victim was abandoned in front of her house some days later.
