Imphal, July 16 2013:
Along with officials of IFC Department, MLA RK Anand today inspected the condition of the paddy fields in his Naoriya Pakhanglakpa A/C which have been flooded by rainfall occurring in the State over the last couple of days.
The inspection team witnessed the paddy fields at Langthabal Lep and its surrounding areas that have been inundated with rain water after the farmers have started planting paddies.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, MLA RK Anand pointed out that paddy fields in Langthabal Lep and its surrounding areas frequently experience floods.
The main reason behind flooding of these paddy fields is due to clogging of Waisel Maril, which is supposed to drain away the excess water from these fields.
In addition, the paddy fields in Langthabal Lep and its surrounding areas are lying lower to Nambul River and hence the water in the fields cannot be allowed to flow to the river.
So, the blockage of Waisel Maril needs to be cleaned up for the excess water from the paddy fields to drain away.
The MLA assured that he would press the concerned authority to clean up Waisel Maril so that the problems recurring flood faced by the people in Langthabal Lep is solved.
He acknowledged that if the paddy fields in Langthabal Lep could be flooded easily at slight rainfall, the farmers might be facing more serious problems when there is heavy rainfall.
As soon as the excess water from the fields is drained away, all possible help to plant paddies in the field will be rendered and see what more could be done in this regard, the MLA assured.
Later, the MLA also inspected the condition of Waisel Maril drainage system.
