TFOs buckle to 'public interest', lifts 'indefinite curfew'

The Tangkhul frontal organisations buckled up to 'pressure' on day two of ''public curfew'' and announced its decision to suspend its agitation for transfer of Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner from Tuesday midnight.
On day two of intense ''public curfew'' in Ukhrul, the Tangkhul frontal organisations resolved to temporary call off its agitation in the ''interest of public'' and pave a window period for the State Government to come up with favourable response to their demand.
''In serious consideration of hardship faced by public, we have decided to suspend the curfew,'' said TFO spokesman Dearson Chamroy, who is also chairman of Atung Longphang.
There are reports that a differing opinion has surfaced among leaders of agitating groups.
They are rift over the manner the curfew was lifted unceremoniously from Tuesday midnight.

''In the interest of general public, the public curfew has been called off for temporary period,'' TKS president Yangmi Khapai confirmed.
He added: ''...will wait for early response from the State Government in the matter, or otherwise, intense agitation will resume'' .
TFOs thanked the public for their support during the 48-hour curfew.
More than 24-hour has elapsed since the submission of memorandum to the Chief Secretary by the Tangkhul social organisations.
However, there has been no official response from the state government' .
On day two of ''public curfew,'' the district continued to remain cut off from rest of the state and all other routines like government offices, businesses, educational institution down their shutters.
An interesting development was also witnessed today as Ukhrul SDO Rita Leiyaphy, UADC CEO Luckyson Kashung and LM block BDO Steve Kaphudang arrived at TNL office and held separate meetings with representatives of Tangkhul organisations.
What exactly transpired during the meetings was not known.
Meanwhile, a source from Imphal said the Ukhrul DC R.Sudhan is staying put for another two months as he has priorities to keep.
The state government is reportedly in favour of Sudhan's continuance for a couple of months.
An unconfirmed report stated the State Government has assured the TFOs of looking into their demand and asked the latter to suspend its agitation.
