State Police Dept tops list of unpaid MV tax defaulters

Imphal, July 16 2013:
Even though police personnel have been picking up vehicles that do not clear taxes in time and imposed fine, the vehicles used by State Police Department have not been paying their taxes in time and the accumulated unpaid tax amount has reached Rs 14,53,898 .
According to reports received by Hueiyen Lanpao, there are around 51 Departments and offices under the State Government and the Central Government in the State.
But the government vehicles used by the various departments and offices have not cleared their vehicle taxes to the Motor Vehicles Department and the total amount of due taxes has now reached a whopping Rs 43,47,076 .
Reports further revealed that among the government departments with outstanding dues, the State Police Department is at the top of the list at Rs 14,53,898.Other defaulting departments are Directorate Health and Medical Services (Rs 6,00,129); Directorate of Food Supplies (Rs 2,69,922), the office of Chief Engineer of PHE Department (Rs 3,72,100); the office of Chief Engineer of Electricity Department (Rs 1,78,780): the office of Chief Engineer of PWD (Rs 3,66,31); the office of CEO Imphal (Rs 94,280) and the office of IG Prison (Rs 63,127) .
The Directorate of Family Welfare has also got an outstanding due of Rs 1,89,105; the Director of Tribal Development Department got Rs 41,629 due; the Directorate of PR and Rural Development got Rs 73,759 due; MANIDCO has got Rs 11,170 to be paid to the Motor Vehicle department; the Chief Conservator of Forest has got Rs 50,284 due; the Director of YAS has got Rs 13,687 due; Chief Engineer of Minor Irrigation has got Rs 46,540 due; the Director of Wireless is yet to clear Rs 32,136 and the Deputy Commissioner (Tax) has got Rs 6388 due to be cleared.
