Imphal, December 23, 2013:
Huge cracks have been developed on the retaining wall of an under construction RCC Bridge over Iril River at Keirao Litan Makhong in Imphal East.
The bridge is being constructed by Public Works Department (PWD) at a cost of Rs.6.2 crores from the funding of Northeastern Council (NEC) under its Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).
The construction of the bridge began in December 16, 2011 and it was targeted for completion on December 16 this year.
The cracks are formed from top to bottom of the retaining wall of the bridge located on the eastern river bank.
Moreover, the wall has become sunken by about half foot.
On visiting the spot, Hueiyen Lanpao found some labourers mending the cracks on the wall by climbing upon a ladder.

The residents of Keirao Litan said that the negligence of PWD officials has led to the development of cracks on the retaining wall.
Had the officials been active and responsible, they would not have seen such disgrace in their career.
They further appealed to the authorities concerned to monitor the construction works and take befitting action against those irresponsible contractors and officials.
