Imphal, December 23, 2013:
Reacting to a news report published in December 22 issue under the heading "Muslim body slams Dy CM", Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has clarified that he never spoke a word that would hurt the sentiment of any community of Manipur.
Speaking to media persons at his office today, Gaikhangam stated that the incumbent Government led by Chief Minister O Ibobi believes in secularism.
"We are Indians.
We are Manipuris.
Apart from these facts, difference in religious affiliations, communities and race does not matter", Gaikhangam asserted.
The particular news item published on December 22 quoted the Deputy Chief Minister as stating that 20 Muslim youngsters of Manipur have left for training under Taliban but Gaikhangam clarified that he never made such a statement.
"Neither in official capacity nor in individual capacity, did I ever make such a statement nor would make such a statement in future.
"The charges hurled against me seem politically motivated.
This is the unfortunate part", Gaikhangam said.
The allegation is irresponsible, dangerous and at the same time comical, he said.
He further advised all concerned not to publish such sensitive matters without cross examination even if it was stated by a retired DGP, he added.
