Imphal, December 23, 2013:
A joint meeting of all community leaders, meira paibis and students organizations based in Moreh held last evening at the conference hall of Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) has expressed serious concern over sudden deployment of a large number of security personnel and setting up of Check Posts on both sides of Manipur and Myanmar along the Indo-Myanmar boundary.
The meeting observed that a fear psychosis has been inflicted on the mind of the people in the border town, thus, affecting trading activities following the unwarranted development.
Accordingly, the meeting appealed to India, Manipur and Myanmar Governments to bring an early settlement to the long standing border issue.
Furthermore, the meeting urged for ensuring free movement of people and traders from Manipur and Myanmar by lifting the restrictions imposed taking into consideration of the ensuing Christmas festival.
Yesterday's meeting was attended by representatives of MCM, Hill Tribal Council (HTC), ACODOM, MMCM, Tamil Sangam Moreh, AMSU, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Border Trade and Chambers of Commerce Moreh, MWDA and MWDS.
