MANIREDA bags two prizes

Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India has conferred two prizes of the Solar Thermal Awards 2013 to the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA).
Out of the total State nodal agencies, MANIREDA bagged the second prize for maximum percentage growth in the number of solar water heating systems installed within a year.
The first prize went to Maharashtra.
MANIREDA also received second position for the maximum number of solar water heating systems installed within a year among Special Category States.
Uttarakhand bagged the first prize.
The awards were handed over to MANIREDA Director Manglem Lourembam at a workshop held at Hotel Ashok, New Delhi on the topic "Solar Thermal Systems under UNDP-GEF Project on Concentrated Solar Heat" by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr Farooq Abdullah on December 17.

Speaking to media persons at his New Secretariat office this afternoon, Manglem said that MANIREDA was awarded the two prizes for installing 1544 solar water heating systems within 2012-13. Each system can warm 100 litres of water everyday.
To warm the total volume of water warmed by 1544 solar water heating systems, would require 2.3 MW.
In case the same volume of water should be warmed by using firewood, it would 2316 tonnes of carbon which would contribute to global warming.
Each solar water heating system costs Rs 29,900 including maintenance fee of Rs 3000 for five years.
But the system was made available to public by MANIREDA at the subsidised rate of Rs 7000, Manglem said.
