Imphal, December 23, 2013:
Retaining wall of the RCC bridge built over Iril river at Keirao Litan Makhong in Imphal East district has sunk apart from developing a large crack.
The eastern retaining wall of the bridge has developed a crack from top to bottom and it has sunk into the river by about half a feet.
Local people noticed that new concrete layers were added to the retaining wall with a motive to cover up the sinking.
The bridge is being constructed at the estimated cost of Rs 6.25 crore from DoNER Ministry's Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources.
Special Contractor Liakat has been constructing the bridge since December 2011 with PWD as the executing agency.
Taking serious note of lack of quality control in constructing the bridge, local people sought immediate intervention of the concerned Minister and responsible engineers.
