Asem Sunil Killing: Accused convicted

The lone accused in the Asem Sunil killing case was convicted by a court here on Monday.
Aribam Naobi Sharma of Kongpal Khunou Mayai Leikai was found guilty for murdering Sunil by the court of Sessions Judge, Manipur East, A Guneshwar Sharma under section 304, Part-II of IPC.
A long contrasting story remained hung over after the death of Sunil in a reported road mishap that took place on the night of June 15, 2011.However, later it was found out that the Naobi had actually beaten up Sunil to death.
Moments after announcement of the court verdict, the joint action committee (JAC) that had been fighting for justice in the case hailed the court of Sessions Judge, Manipur East for delivering justice to the victim and his family.
At a press meet in Manipur Press Club here, spokesperson of the JAC, Arambam Bala Leima said that the cause of the death of Sunil could have been concluded as a self-road accident if the court was not approached.
She said, "We thank the court for the justice it has done".
Bala further said one of the cousins of Sunil had filed a petition before the Judicial Magistrate first class, Imphal East in connection with the death occurred on June 20, 2011 after the family thought that the cause of the death could not have been the road accident.
The mishap happened at Kongba Lairenpat around 7:30 pm of June 15, 2011 when the victim was riding home in a scooter slightly hit the wife of Naobi and slipped off the road.
Then, Naobi hit him with a stone on the head.
He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed the same night.
