Two-day Intl Dance Day kicks off

Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Imphal kicked off a two day International Dance Day celebration at JNMD auditorium today.
The celebration was organised under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Imphal vice chairman Professor H Tombi Singh graced the event as the chief guest while Padmashree as well as Theatre Centre Manipur president Warepa Naba as the functional president and eminent Manipuri dancer A Lakshmi as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor H Tombi said that JNMDA, in view of the International Dance Day celebration across the globe, has also organised the occasion for two days.
He maintained that it is necessary and important for students of this academy to be thoroughly aware of the types of Manipuri dance, music etc.
Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy students presented Phayeng Haraoba, Kom tribe dance, Mao tribe dance, Monsang tribe dance, Chothe tribe dance, Tarao tribe dance as part of the celebration.
A lecture cum demonstration on Manipuri dance, music and Thang Ta will be held tomorrow.
