Murder of Mohendro : Further remand for wife, paramour

After completing six days in judicial custody, Longjam Dorendro (30) s/o Ramesh of Tabungkhok Makha Leikai and Keisham Ningol Phijam ongbi Renuka Devi (39), were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class Imphal West II today in connection with the murder of Renuka's husband Phijam Mohendro, before being remanded further into judicial custody till May 13.During the hearing today, the IO of the case submitted that on April 21, at around 7.30 am, upon receiving information regarding the presence of a dead body on the eastern side of Tamphakei Changangei inter village road, a suo moto case was registered by Nambol police.
During the course of the investigation, the phone records of the victim Phijam Mohendro were analysed and one particular phone number was found which was used by the accused Longjam Dorendro by hiding his identity.
The IO continued that hectic efforts were made by the investigating team to nab the accused but he absconded and as such police conducted a search at his residence as well as his uncle's house.
During the search, police seized a moped which had some blood stains and a khudei which was covered with blood from inside the tool box of the vehicle.
Dorendro was arrested on April 23 at around 3.30 pm from his residence and subsequently, Phijam (o) Renuka Devi (the victim's wife) was also arrested by the police.
The IO further submitted that the accused Dorendro admitted to the charges levelled against him and revealed that he had murdered Mohendro by attacking him with a hammer and then stabbing him several times on his head, neck and stomach with a chisel, all as per the direction of the wife of the victim.
He also revealed that after committing the crime, he informed Renuka about the same through phone.
The IO, through the APP, continued that Dorendro disclosed that he was in a physical relationship with Renuka and met several times at her home when the victim was out of station.
On the other hand, Renuka also admitted that she had instructed Dorendro to murder her husband claiming that she had been tortured and beaten by him many times without any reason and he also used to keep her confined at their home.
She also admitted to having an intimate relation with Dorendro.
The IO then submitted that it has been established that the duo hatched a conspiracy to murder Mohendro on April 20 and as per their revelation, the murder weapon was also recovered from near the incident site by the investigating team on April 24 .
The Court, after hearing the submission and going through the case records, remanded the two individuals to judicial custody till May 13.On the other hand, angry locals tried to attack the accused individuals when they were brought out from the Court room.
However, they were rushed to the police vehicle under tight security thereby preventing any further incident.
