More condemn arson

The Alumni of St Joseph Higher Secondary School Sugnu, has strongly condemned the attack on the institution in the night of April 25.A press release issued by the convenor of the association mentioned that the school, which is one of the pioneer Missionary schools in the State, had made immense difference in the lives of many young people, particularly of Chandel district and added that the school's contribution from the sixties is evident from the fact that the school produced many men and women, who have excelled in their respective fields.
The attack on the school is similar to an attack on the mother who nurtured the students to grow into responsible citizens, it added.
It further urged the State Government and its machinery to ensure the culprits are booked at the earliest so as to serve as an example for all those who think they can attack and silence educational institutions.
It also pledged support to the school authority and the Catholic Education Society of Manipur in the effort to rebuild the school.
On the other hand, Manipur Catholic Women Organisation and Kuki Catholic Union Manipur have also vehemently condemned the burning of the School.
The associations also appealed to 'the authority concerned to book the culprits at the earliest and also appealed for support from the people and the general public in ensuring speedy justice.
Meanwhile, Sacred Heart Church Hungpung, Ukhrul district, the Mother Church of Catholic Church in Manipur has expressed shock with the news of St Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Sugnu being set ablaze by miscreants and strongly condemned and disapproved the irresponsible act.
A school is a sacred institution for knowledge and disrespecting such institution is a barbaric act carried out by regressive individuals, said a statement of the Committee, Sacred Heart Church Hungpung, Ukhrul district.
The culprits should be booked for such regressive act, it asserted.
It stated that Sacred Heart Church stands by St Joseph's Higher Secondary School, Sugnu in its unfortunate times and will support and pray for the safety and security of the school and its students.
A statement of Kuki Catholic Union, Manipur (KCUM) too joined the condemnation while stating that the crime reflects the true nature of the culprits, their brutality and barbarism.
It urged the State Government to book the culprits at the earliest and appealed the party/ the individual concerned not to repeat such act in the future.
It further appealed to the public to extend all possible aid to the school authority for immediate reconstruction of the school so as to save the academic career
of the students.
