Thousands pay final tribute to slain NVG

Noney, July 30 2026: Thousands of mourners from different parts of Manipur gathered on Thursday to attend the funeral service of slain Naga Village Guard Lanbimei Riamei (29) at Longmai-3 Baptist Church Hall at Noney district headquarters.

The funeral programme was led by Deacon Samuel Phaomei while the funeral gospel message was delivered by Kaphun Gangmei, Head Deacon of Longmai-3 Baptist Church.

The funeral was attended by a large number of civil society organisation (CSO) leaders, village authorities, church leaders and Naga National workers representing the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, Inpui and Chiru communities from various parts of the State.

The leaders paid floral tributes, offered messages of condolence to the bereaved family and honoured the deceased for his sacrifice.

During the condolence speeches, several leaders stated that the name of late Lanbimei Riamei would be included in the record of Naga martyrs.

Following the church service, the mortal remains were taken to the cemetery where members of the Naga Village Guard accorded him a ceremonial gun salute as a mark of honour during his final rites.

The committal service was led by Rev Ngamdisin Kamei, Pastor of Longmai-3 Baptist Church.

Funeral hymns were presented by GMEM and the Longmai-3 Baptist Church Choir, paying their final respects through songs of faith and remembrance.

The funeral programme witnessed an overwhelming turnout and was attended by thousands of people from different districts.
