Manipur delegation raises State crisis at National Workers-Farmers Convention

Imphal, July 30 2026: A delegation from Manipur actively participated in the National Convention of workers and farmers held on July 29, 2026 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi, jointly organised by Central Trade Unions, Sectoral Federations and Samyukta Kisan Morcha.

The Manipur delegation included leaders of AITUC Manipur State Committee, All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union, and All Manipur Minority Unorganised Workers Union.

They presented the severe economic hardships faced by workers and employees in the State.

Addressing the gathering of thousands of workers, peasants, scheme workers, contract workers and trade union activists from across India, the delegation highlighted the extraordinary economic difficulties in Manipur due to the prolonged crisis.

Special attention was drawn to the absence of free movement along the National Highways, which has worsened livelihoods in the State.

The convention discussed rising unemployment, low wages, contractualization, erosion of social security and inflation.

It strongly opposed the Centre's four Labour Codes, alleging they weaken labour protections and restrict trade union rights.

On behalf of the three Manipur unions, a memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister on July 29 outlining their demands.

The convention resolved to hold nationwide protests on August 10.In Manipur, the coordinating body of Trade Unions will organise State and district level protests in coordination with farmers' unions, reaffirming commitment to united struggles for workers' and farmers' rights.
