Imphal, January 08, 2012:
Film Forum Manipur secretary RK Chandrakumar has stated that all film related activities would be suspended indefinitely from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons today, firms and individuals producing films are no longer in position to produce any more films on account of continual monetary demands made by different organisations and UG groups.
Until a definite decision is taken together with leaders of civil society organisations and resource persons about the course of Manipuri cinema, all film related activities like shooting, screening and laboratory works would be suspended indefinitely from tomorrow, Chandrakumar said.
Saying that films produced with small budgets in digital mode have been allowed to take part in many regional and national level film festivals, he claimed that Manipuri cinema has the opportunity to win Indian Panorama and National Film Awards.
As the market for Manipuri cinema is very small, it is impossible to earn a decent income from the film industry.
Those working in Manipur film industry are motivated only by their penchant for art and films, he added.
