Marking its 22nd foundation day, the Khuman Lampak Dingku Road Auto Owners and Drivers' Association organized an awareness programme on road traffic at Khuman Lampak Bus Parking today.
The inaugural function of the campaign was graced by K Joykumar, OC, Traffic Police and Dr L Mahabir, Joint Director, Language Cell, Directorate of Education (S) as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Shyam, SI, Imphal West Traffic Police, L Chaoba, VP, Khuman Lampak Dingkun Road Auto Owners and Drivers Association and Social Worker KH Robindro were also present at the occasion as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Sub Inspector Shyam pointed out that the number of deaths due to road accidents has increased in the state of late.
The main reason behind this is that almost all people of the state hardly obey the traffic rules and regulations.
If all the people of the state understand the rules and regulations of traffic and duly follow them, the rate of road accidents and related deaths will come down drastically.
He also appealed to the parents to avoid letting their children who are not of age to drive engine vehicles.
Moreover, the Autorickshaws carrying passengers and school vans should also ensure that passengers do not step down from the vehicles through the doors on the right side.
This will also help in minimizing the chances of occurring road accidents to a large extent, he added.
Delivering the Presidential address, Dr L Mahabir pointed out that even though the State government has its own Traffic Policy; it is not in tune with the present state.
The ever increasing traffic volume and the existing roads in the state are out of proportion today.
He mooted that a separate lane for the ever increasing number of autorickshaws plying for passenger services should be constructed, and appealed to all the Autorickshaw drivers and the general public not to stop their vehicles wherever and whenever they desire.
