Imphal, January 08 2012:
As part of the 283rd Anniversary Fortnight Observance of the Puya Mei Thaba incident being organised by International Committee on Observation of Puya Mei Thaba (ICOP), a painting competition for school students upto class 10 was held today at the premises of the Ideal Club, Tera.
The competition was jointly organised by ICOP and Ideal Club, Tera.
The inaugural function of the painting competition was graced by Director, Arts and Culture Dr K Sobita as Chief Guest.
Vice Chairman of ICOP Moirangthem Naodalenkhomba, ICOP Chief Convener Ngaseppam Yumjao and President of Ideal Club Tera Thingom Mangi were presidium members of the function, which was also attended by Proprietor of Nahakpam Foods and Beverage N Santa and Kangjam Yaikhomba as Special Guests.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Sobita said that the present Manipuri society lacks the moral of a well behaved society where no one heeds to the advice of the elders.
In the past, youngsters used to fear the older generation, but today, elders fear the younger generation.
In such a situation, conserving and upholding the moral behaviour of our forefathers, where one respects each other, has become one of the most important issues in the state.
The painting competition based on the Puya Mei Thaba incident will give the students the opportunity to know their origin.
The top three paintings of the competition will be stored in the state Museum for the future and the Department of Arts and Culture will also organise similar painting competitions in the coming years to create awareness of the history of the state among the students.
