Imphal, January 08, 2012:
Political organisations in fray for the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly election have been advised to include development of Imphal-Jiribam section of National Highway-37 (formerly 53) in their respective manifestoes.
The demand was raised along with staging of a sit-in demonstration held today at Wahengbam Leikai Nipa Keithel under the aegis of The United Club National Highway-37. Speaking to newspersons on the sideline of the protest, Club president Thongam Shyama Khaba Nganba suggested that priority of the next government in Manipur should be expeditious development of the highway.
Highlighting importance of keeping the route in order for the economic upliftment and negating disruptive agitations on alternative highways that connect Manipur to other parts of the country, he also called upon all the civil society organisations for a unified movement to ensure completion of the highway development work at the earliest.
