Air intelligence unit seizes Rs 60 lacs

On the basis of inputs provided by the air intelligence unit stationed at Tulihal Airport, as part of the measures taken up to prevent use of black money and making heavy expenditures in the upcoming Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, Rs 60 lakhs has been seized by its counterparts from a passenger from Imphal at Delhi airport.
According to official sources, the air intelligence unit detected that a man was carrying a huge amount of money of January 4. The information was promptly passed to air intelligence unit deployed at Delhi airport and the amount was seized there.
However, the identity of the person who was carrying the money has not been disclosed.
Air intelligence units have been stationed at Imphal, Guwahati, Silchar, Kolkata and Delhi airports at the instruction of Election Commission of India to check movement and transfer of money in bulk.
Already, flying squads and surveillance teams have been put into action in every district to check use of black money and reduce election-related expenditures.
The District Election Officers have also declared that any one carrying cash in bulk without supportive documents would be arrested.
To facilitate expenditure monitoring, candidates have been made to open separate bank accounts and Income Tax officials have been monitoring these accounts.
The Election Commission of India has already taken up a number of stringent steps to monitor the expenditures of candidates.
Security personnel detailed for election duty in Manipur would start arriving here from January 10 .
