CCpur, March 01 2016:
Barely a few days after Kangpokpi Additional Deputy Commissioner DK Thangboi assumed additional charge of CEO Kangpokpi ADC, unidentified miscreant lobbed a bomb believed to be a hand grenade at his private residence shattering several glass panes and puncturing vehicle tyres, drawing criticisms from numerous CSOs.
The bomb, which L Mangkhogin Haokip, SP Churachandpur said is suspected to be a hand grenade is believed to have been lobbed from outside the gate and exploded about a meter from the residential building but left a crater on the concrete slab and shattered several glass panes besides puncturing tyres of two vehicles parked inside the campus.
The younger brother of the Additional DC, his better half and their minor children were already in bed when the bomb exploded at around 11.30 pm, according to family sources.
The impact of the explosion reportedly shook the one storey building despite the minor damage it caused forcing the occupants to make frantic calls to relatives late in the night.
Police as well as family members have denied having any clue on who could be behind the attack.
It may be mentioned here that DK Thangboi had just assumed additional charge of CEO Kangpokpi and according to his better half, received security only yesterday.
He was at Kangpokpi when the attack occurred.
Meanwhile, the KSO Churachandpur, TKSU (GHQs) and KWOHR have condemned the bomb attack which they said was a ploy to carry out extortion drives.
They also called on the organisation responsible for the attack to tender an unconditional apology and to shun violence.
The three CSOs also condemned the brutal murder of Thangkhogin Haokip, a resident of Molnom village, Chandel District at Satu Aimol on the night of February 29 .
The crime was committed by suspected militants and it has deeply hurt them, they said in a statement and added, 'We strongly raise our protest against such mindless provocation' .
