Imphal, March 01 2016:
Pained by the destruction and felling of trees in
the name of installation of a 33 KV power sub-station in Kakching
Khullen area, the Alliance for Development Alternatives, Manipur
(ADAM) appealed to the Chief Minister of Manipur to look into
the alleged gross violation of environmental laws of the land.
In a statement, ADAM also urged all concerned to stop
further destruction and greens felling.
It urged the authorities
concerned to initiate immediate necessary action for bringing
an amicable solution in the interest of all.
ADAM also wanted to know whether the Kakching Mu-
nicipal Council issued requisite 'No objection certificate' to the
MSPDCL for construction of 33 KV power sub-station.
If it
had done so, what are the terms and conditions.
It also asked why no information was given to Kakching
MC or ADAM, Kakching regarding dismantling of Green
House and before cutting down of trees including rare and
indigenous plants by the MSPDCL or its contractors when
there is every possibility for relocation of the plants/trees.
ADAM further asked what would be the condition of 4 eco
huts, one thatched roof auditorium and various rare and indig-
enous plants species likely to be destroyed by MSPDCL.
ADAM would be compelled to go to the law Court for
justice if the grievances are not looked into at the earliest.
