254 Govt schools damaged

Altogether 254 Government schools were damaged in the January 4 earthquake which jolted the State, Education Minister M Okendro informed the House today.
Responding to a query raised by MLA Th Bishwajit, Okendro added that 24 Government and Government-aided colleges, Government Polytechnic, SCERT Directorate and DIET Centre Imphal and DIET Centre were also damaged by the earthquake.
He said that the Government has so far give its approval to shift away four private schools.
There are technical as well as non-technical criteria for opening schools and colleges and they are within the purview of the Manipur Non-Government Schools and Colleges Rules 1975 and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules 2010 .
Compilation of MGEL for teachers working under Education Department is still incomplete for some and the transfer and posting policy exists in the form of guidelines of an office memorandum, Okendro informed the House.
Replying to a query raised by MLA S Bira, the Education Minister stated that construction of school buildings under SSA has been completed for 10 Primary Schools within Kumbi AC while buildings for five other schools are under construction.
The completed schools buildings would be inaugurated within the current month while the remaining others would be inaugurated by July this year.
The State Government has been working to expand Imphal-Gwalatabi road, said Works Minister Kh Ratankumar in response to a question put up by MLA Ksh Biren.
Replying to Kh Joykishan, Dr Ratankumar stated that Rs 19.99 crore was invested for maintenance of National Highways between 2012-13 and 2015.Out of this, Rs 3.80 crore was reimbursed last year.
Maintenance fund for the current financial year is Rs 15.38 crore.
Between 2012-13 and 2015, PWD released Rs 201.86 crore for roads, Rs 1.97 crore for bridges and Rs 38.23 crore for buildings.
Responding to a query raised by RK Imo, Dr Ratankumar who is also in charge of Transport Dept clarified that there is no plan to introduce CNG for commercial vehicles in the State.
Replying to MLA Janghemlung Panmei, Dr Ratankumar said that recruitment rules are being modified even though certain posts have been approved by the State Cabinet for DTO Tamenglong.
Replying to K Shyam, Labour and Employment Minister I Hemochandra said that 745557 unemployed youth have registered in employment exchanges.
The total number of sanctioned posts at present is 92653 against which 25329 are vacant, he added.
