Regional seminar kick starts

A two-day regional level seminar on harassment at workplace for rural women, organised by Centre for Human Resource and Economic Development, has kick started at Manipur Press Club from today.
IGP (Retired) Manipur, M Sushilkumar, State Human Rights Commission former Member Ng Nongyai and AMWJU former President A Mobi attended the function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
M Sushilkumar while speaking at the occasion said that bringing a positive change to the society needs equal contributions from both the male and female members of the society.
Citizens of this country must understand their duties first in order to demand their rights, Sushilkumar observed.
In his speech, he also emphasised on the need to award stringent punishment to criminals to check ever increasing crime rate.
A Mobi while speaking at the occasion opined that women must elect women leaders to power in elections to reduce ever increasing rate of crime against women.
LMS Law College Guest Lecturer Dr Chongtham Noren moderated the technical session of the seminar.
Advocate Rakesh Meihoubam spoke on the topic, 'Review of the legal framework and the code of good practice on the handling of sexual harrasment while Human Rights Alert Executive Director Babloo Loitogbam expressed his view on the topic, 'The referral of sexual harassment disputes and
High Courts' .
Manipur Human Rights Organisation secretary Dr N Santakumar spoke on the topic, 'Role of NGO for sexually harassed women in State context' .
